223/2016 - Jamal learning English

It is sometimes a challenge for Jamal to interact with people as he does not yet speak English. But he loves this interaction, he needs it and he searches for it. And as most of the Indians are so open and friendly, it becomes easier for him. Often we have to tell him some English vocabulary and he uses it to speak to a waiter in a restaurant, or a taxi driver or any other persons around us.

For the new every day Kindergarden routine at the American Embassy School this language barrier is an issue that a lot of other children and the teachers are facing. The teachers have great techniques to deal with it: they use strong facial impressions like actors, or hand gestures - this all combined with a continuous conversation in English.

This way they promise that Jamal and the other non English speaking children will be able to fluently speak English by the end of this school year.
