Phnom Penh, a city lacking in urban green spaces, has few parks or even small green areas for leisure or walking. Consequently, our neighborhood used to have residents walking and running in the streets. When the developer of our neighborhood began covering an abandoned plot of land with layers of grass, we were thrilled. After weeks of work, we now have a small park, about the size of two or three football fields, perfect for our daily runs. A single lap is approximately 600 meters. Not only do we enjoy this small piece of urban green, but many citizens of all ages now gather daily to walk, run, play, and exercise. It has quickly become a very attractive space that draws more and more people. However, the park’s location at the edge of our city quarter seems somewhat disconnected and randomly chosen.
