My daily Priya Run

We lived for several year in Vasant Vihar before - however, the "Priya Park" became a nice place only recently when it was redesigned and upgraded. I am using it almost on a daily base for my after work runs. Getting there from our home in the middle of Vasant Vihar is a little tricky (although it is only 1k), as I have to cross two bigger streets. But the residential streets in Vasant Vihar with the massive tree coverage and smaller markets and pocket parks everywhere make it also fun and interesting. The fenced park itself offers a round track of about 1.5k on paths through an open park landscape with big lawns, smaller brooks, some old temple buildings, public washrooms, benches and other features. In the late afternoon and evening hours many people from the surrounding come to relax and make some sports. Besides walking and running, people are dancing, doing yoga, they play cricket, badminton or football or they simply have a chat on the benches or the lawn itself. And it...

Traditional Khmer Boats

Anyone traveling along Cambodia's coasts or visiting the country's idyllic islands will inevitably be accompanied by a very special sight: the traditional Khmer wooden boats. These boats are far more than just means of transportation—they are a living part of maritime culture and picturesque symbols of everyday life in Cambodia. The movement of these boats is often leisurely. They chug gently across the water, sometimes seeming almost motionless as they linger in small bays that temporarily serve as home harbors. These floating spaces, often shaded and occasionally equipped with a second story and rooftop area, not only provide protection from the sun but also tell stories of life on the water. A distinctive feature of these boats is their peeling paint, fluttering fabrics in the wind, and items gently dancing on the waves. The charm of the weathered and well-lived gives them a unique aesthetic. Thanks to their relatively flat bottoms, Khmer boats can also easily land on shallo...

My own designed and 3D printed sun glasses

Since I proudly own a small 3D printing machine, and since I learned to draw simple 3D objects in a CAD Software and print them (what magic!), the idea to design and 3D-print my own (sun-) glasses is in my head. For five weeks I am working continuously on this and have already made several prototypes. However - this task is not easy. Many things are quite complex and not going as smooth as I thought:  finding the right dimensions Making tricky details like the hinges right Finding the right "style" to avoid a funny and/or cheap look  achieving a comfortable fit But it is still fun to test and re-design. The images of the sketches and prototypes are telling their own story.  Finally, a couple of days ago, I took the frame to a local optician and had the glasses fitted.  Model: Kiran

Chipmong Community Park

Phnom Penh, a city lacking in urban green spaces, has few parks or even small green areas for leisure or walking. Consequently, our neighborhood used to have residents walking and running in the streets. When the developer of our neighborhood began covering an abandoned plot of land with layers of grass, we were thrilled. After weeks of work, we now have a small park, about the size of two or three football fields, perfect for our daily runs. A single lap is approximately 600 meters. Not only do we enjoy this small piece of urban green, but many citizens of all ages now gather daily to walk, run, play, and exercise. It has quickly become a very attractive space that draws more and more people. However, the park’s location at the edge of our city quarter seems somewhat disconnected and randomly chosen. I propose a more central location for the park, which would have been even more appealing. (My proposal comes a bit late, though.)  Sketch/Map: my proposal for a better location of th...

Altenwerder

Sambour Farming

We are standing at the edge of the little village - one of the rural outskirts of Siemreap City. Small houses - more like shacks or huts - made from leftover materials mark the line between the open landscape and the small community named "Sambour". We inspect one of the newly constructed central waste collection points. A concrete construction with a metal roof. The view into the landscape at this bright afternoon with the light beginning to become yellowish is fascinating. Far away the outlines of smaller mountains in an overlay with the shapes of temple structures are setting the frame against the horizon, while in the fields some farmers are working peacefully among their kettles.

CatCoin Currency

Today, I have dedicated some time to develop a novel cryptocurrency, the CatCoin. The fundamental concept behind this currency is that its value is directly proportional to the purring of cats, thereby requiring human attention. This mechanism ensures a stable and consistent value for the currency. The initial exchange rate is 1 CatCoin to 500 EUR. Physical coins (see my design images) are also being produced, with the material chosen to be a high-value aluminum alloy. Photo: The CatCoin

Magic morning ritual (with cats)

We possess a dresser designated for storing items such as towels, undergarments, and socks. Each morning following my shower, I initiate the process of retrieving items from one of the top drawers. While the drawer is open, Ginger (one of our curious cats) enters the drawer and climbs via the void behind the drawer to one of the closed drawers below (the one with the towels). Babaloony, the other cat, appears perplexed by her sister’s sudden disappearance. However, upon opening the towel drawer with Ginger curled up amidst the plush fabric, the situation returns to normal. And this became "The magic drawer trick".  Photo/graphic: Passage within the dresser.

Digital cultural heritage

Kiran got a small gaming console for Christmas, and it’s like a time machine for gamers! It looks like an old-school Gameboy, but it’s packed with modern tech. The best part? It’s loaded with classic games from the past. It’s like a treasure trove of our digital cultural gaming heritage. I’m playing the original Tetris on it, and it’s mind-blowing! Even the smallest details are there, like the little bing when the start screen builds up. And guess what? My Tetris skills are still as sharp as ever! I even managed to score 100,000 points, and while watching the rocket launch (sketch) it is again an emotional rollercoaster to me.

Basket Boats
